Murkomen warns Kalonzo against relying on Sifuna, urges him to join Ruto

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has challenged Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to reconsider his political alliances, warning that his association with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna could frustrate his ambitions for national leadership.

Murkomen dismissed the show of support witnessed at the Linda Mwananchi rally, telling Kalonzo not to mistake the crowd’s reception for a reliable political backing ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a pointed message to the former Vice President on Saturday, October 27, 2026, the CS claimed Sifuna and his allies would not support Kalonzo’s presidential ambitions, despite their growing political engagements.

“If you think Sifuna and the team will support you, Kalonzo, you are fully mistaken. Mimi ni rafiki yako. Tafadhali tafuta njia mwafaka yenye unatafuta uongozi,” Murkomen said.

He invoked his past association with Sifuna, claiming the Nairobi senator was once part of his university youth wing when he served as a student leader.

Murkomen argued that Kalonzo risked political embarrassment by pursuing an alliance with the Linda Mwananchi faction, urging him instead to work with President William Ruto.

“Ukitaka uongozi iliyo bora, shikana na William Samoei Ruto, utafute njia mwafaka ya kuweka nchi ikae pamoja,” he said.

The Interior CS also accused Sifuna’s political camp of promoting bitterness, hatred and violence, arguing that such an alliance would not protect Kalonzo’s political standing.

He described Ruto’s camp as a more suitable political partner, citing national unity and security as reasons Kalonzo should consider joining the President.

“There is a better coalition that believes in the unity of the Republic, that believes in the safety of this nation. Ungana na William Ruto tupeleke nchi isonge mbele,” Murkomen added.

Murkomen’s remarks expose battle for Kalonzo’s support

The remarks highlight the growing political contest over Kalonzo’s position as opposition leaders explore possible partnerships ahead of the 2027 elections.

Kalonzo has been engaging with leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement, which has increasingly positioned itself as an alternative political force.

His appearance at the group’s rally on Friday, October 30, also exposed differences over its leadership and presidential ambitions, after sections of the crowd reacted negatively to his remarks about Sifuna’s political future.

Murkomen’s latest appeal puts fresh pressure on Kalonzo to choose between strengthening ties with the emerging opposition faction and pursuing an arrangement with Ruto’s administration.
