The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal has lifted the suspension on the registration of the Ukombozi Alliance, allowing the process to resume after a dispute over the party’s name. In a statement issued on Thursday, October 29, 2026, the SKM Presidential Secretariat said the tribunal had discharged its earlier orders halting the registration process.
“The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT), sitting today, Thursday, October 29, 2026, has discharged its earlier orders suspending the registration process of The Ukombozi Alliance (TUA),” the statement read.
The ruling marks a significant development for the Ukombozi Alliance, which can now pursue registration without the tribunal’s previous suspension orders standing in its way.
Tribunal clears path for Ukombozi Alliance registration
According to the statement issued by the SKM Presidential Secretariat, the decision was made in the matter registered as PPDT/E007/2026, Allan Jayuga Akivaga v. Office of the Registrar of Political Parties and Wiper Democratic Movement – Kenya.
The case was heard on Thursday afternoon, after which the tribunal discharged its earlier orders suspending the registration process.
“With those orders now discharged, no order of the Tribunal stands between TUA and registration,” the statement said.
The secretariat further indicated that the Registrar of Political Parties is now free to proceed with the registration process and bring it to a conclusion, subject to the applicable legal requirements.
“The Registrar of Political Parties is accordingly at liberty to proceed with and conclude the registration of The Ukombozi Alliance in accordance with the Political Parties Act and all other applicable laws,” the statement added.
The decision removes the immediate procedural obstacle created by the tribunal’s earlier orders. However, it does not, by itself, establish that the party has been fully registered.
What the ruling means for the Ukombozi Alliance
The lifting of the suspension allows the Registrar of Political Parties to continue handling the alliance’s registration in accordance with the Political Parties Act and other applicable laws.
The development is a boost for the political outfit associated with Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, whose presidential advisory council announced the SKM Presidential Secretariat.
The dispute involved Allan Jayuga Akivaga, the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties and the Wiper Democratic Movement – Kenya. The statement identified the case but did not provide further details about the underlying arguments concerning the party’s name or the tribunal’s reasoning for discharging its earlier orders.
It also did not indicate when the Registrar of Political Parties is expected to conclude the registration process.
Consequently, the next step rests with the Registrar, who must complete the process in accordance with the law. Until the relevant registration requirements are fulfilled, the tribunal’s decision should not be interpreted as confirmation that the Ukombozi Alliance has acquired full registration status.
Kalonzo Musyoka’s secretariat announces tribunal secision
The announcement was issued by the Communications Department of the SKM Presidential Secretariat on behalf of Kalonzo Musyoka’s office.
The statement, titled “Boost for the Ukombozi Alliance as Tribunal Lifts Suspension on Registration,” described the ruling as a positive development for the alliance.
The secretariat provided media contact details for Paloma Gatabaki, its communications lead, for further inquiries.
The ruling brings the immediate suspension dispute to a new stage, clearing the way for the registration process to continue while leaving the Registrar of Political Parties responsible for its lawful conclusion.
For the Ukombozi Alliance, the key development is that the tribunal’s earlier orders no longer stand in the way of registration. The outstanding question is how quickly the Registrar will proceed and whether the alliance will satisfy all remaining statutory requirements.
