The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has reported five arrests and cannabis seizures in Busia, Homa Bay, Kitui, Murang’a and Wajir in a coordinated crackdown on suspected narcotics trafficking.
The recoveries included a large bale of cannabis in Busia, 64 rolls of bhang in Homa Bay, 325 rolls in Kitui, 150 rolls in Murang’a and 10 bales in Wajir.

Suspects intercepted across five counties
In Busia, detectives from the National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau (NANIB) intercepted Abubakar Omar Rajab at the main bus stage as he prepared to board a Nairobi-bound bus.
A search of his black bag revealed a large bale of cannabis sativa wrapped in yellow cello tape.
The DCI said the suspect was arrested and escorted to Busia Police Station for processing pending arraignment.
In Homa Bay, NANIB detectives raided a residential house in Rodi Township, recovering 64 rolls of bhang and arresting Elijah Ochieng Alfred, who remained in custody awaiting arraignment.
In Kitui, a multi-agency team manning a roadblock at Kivandini along the Thika–Garissa Highway intercepted a public service vehicle travelling from Nairobi towards Mwingi.
Officers searched passengers and discovered a packet containing 325 rolls of cannabis sativa concealed in Nicholas Mathumbi Kitati’s jacket. He was escorted to Kanyonyoo Police Station.
Toyota Fielder detained in Murang’a
In Murang’a County, a tip-off led officers from Kigumo Police Station to Kangari Township, where they searched a silver Toyota Fielder linked to Evans Karanja Mwaura.
The search yielded 150 rolls of bhang and assorted rolling papers. The DCI said the recovered items were secured as exhibits, while the vehicle was detained as investigations continued.
In Wajir, detectives arrested Abdnasir Jelle and recovered 10 bales of cannabis sativa. He remained in police custody for processing pending arraignment, according to the statement.

DCI issues warning on narcotics trafficking
The DCI said it remained committed to pursuing suspected drug traffickers and disrupting illicit supply networks.
“The DCI remains relentless in the war against narcotics,” the agency said, adding that it was pursuing traffickers and working to disrupt supply networks.
The statement did not disclose the weight of the large bale recovered in Busia or the 10 bales seized in Wajir, making it impossible to establish the total quantity of cannabis recovered in the five operations.
The arrests do not establish criminal guilt. The allegations against the individuals must be determined through the legal process.
