Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested Inspector Kenneth Kipkemboi Sang, a wanted suspect in investigations into the murders of Nairobi lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu and Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.
Sang was arrested in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County, following an intelligence-led operation by detectives from DCI Headquarters, according to a statement issued by the investigative agency.
The arrest marks a significant development in the investigations, with detectives pursuing further leads to establish the circumstances surrounding the two killings and determine whether other individuals were involved.
How DCI detectives arrested Kenneth Sang in Eldoret
According to the DCI, detectives intercepted Sang along Uganda Road in Eldoret’s Central Business District while he was driving a silver Toyota Fielder, registration number KCM 508L.
The agency said the operation followed actionable intelligence that led investigators to the suspect’s whereabouts in the North Rift town.
At the time of his arrest, Sang was reportedly attempting to sell the vehicle to raise money for his daily upkeep, the DCI said.
The statement did not disclose the intended sale price, how long Sang had been on the run or the specific intelligence that led detectives to him.

His arrest brings into custody a suspect who had remained at large as investigators continue examining the two murder cases.
Following his arrest, Sang was escorted to Eldoret Police Station for processing pending arraignment, according to the DCI.
The agency did not specify the charges he would face or provide a date for his expected court appearance.
Investigations into Mathew Mbobu and Victoria Mutiso murders
Sang is wanted in connection with the murders of Mbobu, a prominent Nairobi lawyer, and Mutiso, a medical doctor.
However, the DCI statement did not detail the evidence linking the inspector to either killing, explain the alleged circumstances of the murders or clarify whether investigators believe the cases are connected.
Detectives are continuing to pursue leads to establish the full circumstances of the killings and determine whether other suspects may have been involved.
The agency did not announce any additional arrests or disclose whether investigators had recovered further evidence following Sang’s interception in Eldoret.
The arrest is a development in the investigations, but the allegations against Sang have yet to be established through court proceedings.

DCI vows to pursue all those involved
The DCI reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing justice for the victims and their families, saying investigators would continue following credible leads in the two cases.
βNo rank, status or affiliation places anyone above the law,β the agency said.
The statement underscored the DCI’s position that a suspect’s professional position or connections would not shield them from investigation.
βDetectives will continue following every credible lead to ensure that all those involved are brought before the courts to face their charges,β the agency added.
The DCI described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in the investigations, with detectives continuing efforts to establish whether other individuals played a role in the killings.
What happens next in the murder investigations?
Sang was taken to Eldoret Police Station for processing pending arraignment, according to the DCI statement.
Further developments will depend on the investigations and subsequent court proceedings. The agency has not publicly detailed the evidence against Sang or indicated whether additional suspects are being pursued.
His arrest does not amount to a conviction, and any allegations against him must be determined through the legal process.
The DCI has maintained that its investigations will continue until the circumstances surrounding the murders are established and those found responsible are brought before the courts.
The agency has not provided a timeline for completing the investigations into the deaths of Mbobu and Mutiso.
