Antonio Conte is said to be interested in becoming Manchester United manager should the club decide to dismiss Michael Carrick, according to Friday’s newspaper reports.

The Italian tactician has been reported to have communicated his willingness to take charge at Old Trafford if United’s hierarchy opts to end Carrick’s tenure.

Questions have also been raised about the reaction of supporters during United’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Tottenham, who played with 10 men. Former United defender Gary Neville suggested that the boos heard during the match were not directed at Carrick.

Meanwhile, Lisandro Martinez is said to be hesitant to commit his future to United by signing a contract extension following his explosive criticism of the club’s leadership over what he considers a lack of ambition.

Martinez’s frustration is also said to have been triggered by the decision to deploy young defender Ayden Heaven at left-back, a situation that reportedly contributed to his angry reaction towards the club’s senior officials.

Former United midfielder Roy Keane has also criticised the club’s dressing-room leadership, accusing senior players of being more focused on podcast appearances than maintaining discipline within the squad.

Elsewhere, former United midfielder Ander Herrera has defended captain Bruno Fernandes, urging critics to ease their criticism and give the Portuguese midfielder greater appreciation for his contribution to the team.

Former United defender Paul Parker, meanwhile, has revealed that he would not sign Erling Haaland for the Old Trafford club.

Premier League transfer developments

United are also monitoring Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite as they consider strengthening their defensive options.

Bournemouth and France international Adrien Truffert is another player reportedly attracting interest from the Manchester club.

At Arsenal, Mikel Merino has credited a meeting among the players following last season’s draw against Wolves with helping to inspire the team’s subsequent push towards the Premier League title.
