Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has outlined the issues he says would form the focus of his administration if he wins the 2027 presidential election.
Gachagua made the remarks on Monday, August 24, 2026, while presenting a report on consultations he said he held with Kenyans during a 55-day stay at his Wamunyoro residence.
The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader said the consultations focused on the challenges facing Kenyans and what they would want from the next administration.
Among the issues he highlighted were the cost of living, education, healthcare, jobs, taxation, security, agriculture, devolution, and accountability.
Education and healthcare

Gachagua said Kenyans want changes in the education sector, including better access to free primary and secondary education, free TVET education, and a university system that responds to their needs.
On healthcare, he said access to medicines remains a major concern for families seeking treatment.
“Kenyans want drugs in hospitals,” Gachagua said, adding that healthcare reform should go beyond SHA registration.
He said a future system should focus on healthcare workers, information systems, essential medicines and technology, financing, and governance.
Agriculture would also be a major area of focus, with Gachagua saying farmers had raised concerns about the cost of inputs, food prices, and struggling value chains.
“Kenyans want their agriculture back,” he said.
Jobs, taxes and security
On the economy, Gachagua said workers and traders had raised concerns over taxes, reduced household incomes and the business environment.

He said young people want “fair and decent jobs” and fair pay, while traders want a predictable tax framework.
Security and accountability also featured prominently in his report.
Gachagua said his administration would pursue accountability over abductions, extrajudicial killings and other violations raised during his consultations.
He said those responsible should face legal consequences.
“The people of Kenya are crying for justice,” he said.
Gachagua also said a future administration would address the problem of illicit brews and drugs, which he said had become a major concern for families, particularly because of their impact on young people.
On devolution, he said communities want greater accountability for county resources, while women continue to demand implementation of the two thirds gender rule.
He also pledged to push for reforms affecting social security, public service, the creative and digital economy and environmental protection.
Gachagua said Kenyans had asked him to prepare a policy paper covering different sectors for public validation.
He also declared that he would seek to become the preferred presidential candidate of the United Alternative Government in the 2027 election.
“I played a big role to bring this government into power. It is hurting Kenyans. I am playing a bigger role to send it home come 10th August 2027 on the ballot,” he said.
