Kenya Airways (KQ) has warned passengers to expect flight delays as the airline works to clear a backlog following the call-off of an Air Traffic Control workers’ strike.
In a customer update dated September 1, Kenya Airways said its teams had begun working through the backlog to restore normal flight schedules. The airline expects to resume its normal scheduled operations by Wednesday, September 2, 2026, although some delays may continue during the recovery period.
“Following the Air Traffic Control workers’ strike call-off this morning, our teams have been proactively working through the flight backlog to restore normal operations,” Kenya Airways said.
The airline explained that the end of the strike does not mean flight schedules immediately return to normal. Teams must first work through the accumulated backlog, meaning passengers should continue checking their individual flight information before travelling.

Kenya Airways said customers affected by the disruption should expect some delays while flight schedules are restored.
“We anticipate resuming our normal scheduled operations by Wednesday, 2nd September 2026,” the airline said in its customer notice.
Passengers whose flights are affected will receive flight-status notifications by SMS, WhatsApp and email, using the contact details provided with their bookings.
Kenya Airways is also encouraging customers to independently check their latest flight information.
“We encourage customers to visit www.kenya-airways.com or the KQ mobile app to check their flight status and update their contact information by selecting the Manage Booking option,” the notice states.

Kenya Airways said customers affected by the disruption who want to change their travel arrangements can reschedule their flights at no additional cost.
Passengers seeking further assistance can contact the airline’s Customer Excellence Centre (CEC) at +254 711 024 747. Kenya Airways also provided WhatsApp support at +254 705 474 747.
The airline apologised for the disruption and thanked passengers for their patience and understanding.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by this disruption and appreciate your patience and understanding during this period,” Kenya Airways said.
The carrier added that the safety of passengers and staff remains its priority as teams work to restore normal operations.
For travellers with Kenya Airways bookings, the immediate priority is to check flight status before travelling, monitor messages from the airline and contact customer support if a flight requires rescheduling.
