Detectives have arrested a robbery person of interest in Embakasi, Nairobi, over a series of alleged robberies targeting people shortly after withdrawing money from banks.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspect was arrested by a team of detectives drawn from the Operation Action Team (OAT) and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) following intelligence gathering and forensic analysis.
According to the DCI on Thursday, October 29, 2026, the person of interest allegedly disguise themselves as traffic police officers to ambush unsuspecting victims moments after they withdraw cash from banks.
The criminals are said to exploit the authority associated with police uniforms to stop and rob their targets, turning what should be an ordinary journey from a bank into a frightening encounter.
βThrough meticulous intelligence gathering and forensic analysis, detectives identified four key suspects believed to be linked to the incidents,β the DCI said.
Suspect Previously Arrested in April
The DCI identified the arrested person of interest as Muia Mutune, also known as Fredrick Mbuta.
According to investigators, Mutune had previously been arrested in April 2026 over similar cases but was released on bond in July 2026.
Detectives continued pursuing leads in the robbery investigations until intelligence placed the suspect in Embakasi Village, where he was subsequently arrested.
His latest arrest comes as investigators pursue other individuals believed to have participated in the alleged robberies.
Detectives Pursue Suspect’s Accomplices
The person of interest remains in police custody as detectives process him ahead of his arraignment in court.
The DCI said investigations were ongoing, with efforts intensified to track down the alleged accomplices who remain at large.

The agency urged members of the public to report information that could assist in investigations into robbery incidents and other criminal activities.
Members of the public can share information anonymously through the DCI toll-free number 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.
The person of interest remains an accused person, and the allegations against him will be subject to the court process.
