Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a robbery suspect and recovered a Samsung S24 Ultra stolen from a woman during a violent daylight robbery along Lang’ata Road in Nairobi.

The suspect, identified as John Kamiti Nderitu, was arrested in Kariobangi following investigations into the incident, which occurred near Luqman Petrol Station, opposite Uhuru Gardens.

In a statement, the DCI said its detectives based at Lang’ata launched a pursuit after two men riding a motorcycle allegedly attacked the woman and stole her mobile phone.

“Detectives from DCI Lang’ata have arrested a suspect linked to a violent robbery along Lang’ata Road and recovered the Samsung S24 Ultra stolen from a woman in broad daylight,” the agency stated.

How the robbery happened

According to the DCI, the incident began when the woman was walking near Luqman Petrol Station, where the two suspects allegedly approached her on a motorcycle bearing registration number KMHA 861F, a Boxer model.

The pillion passenger allegedly assaulted the woman before snatching her Samsung S24 Ultra and fleeing with his accomplice.

“The pillion passenger allegedly assaulted her and grabbed her phone. Then the pair roared off towards Nyayo Stadium,” the DCI said.

The robbery occurred in broad daylight, with the suspects reportedly escaping towards Nyayo Stadium immediately after the attack.

Suspect arrested in Kariobangi

Following the incident, detectives launched investigations to track down the suspects and recover the stolen phone.

The trail eventually led investigators to Kariobangi, where they cornered and arrested Nderitu.

The DCI confirmed that the stolen Samsung S24 Ultra was recovered during the operation, alongside the motorcycle allegedly used in the robbery.

The motorcycle has since been detained as an exhibit as investigations into the incident continue.

The recovery marks a key development in the investigation, with detectives seeking to establish the full circumstances surrounding the robbery and identify all those involved.

Hunt for second suspect

While one suspect is now in custody, the second man allegedly involved in the robbery remains at large.

The DCI said detectives were continuing efforts to track him down and bring him to justice.

“Meanwhile, detectives are hot on the trail of the other suspect who remains at large,” the agency stated.

The arrest comes as investigators pursue leads in the Lang’ata Road robbery, with the recovered phone and motorcycle expected to form part of the evidence in the case.

Authorities have yet to provide further details about the suspect’s court appearance or whether additional arrests are expected as investigations progress.
