Amuma remains in police custody as detectives complete processing ahead of his expected arraignment in court, the DCI said.

However, the DCI statement did not specify when the alleged thefts occurred, the value of the recovered meters, or whether additional suspects had been identified.

DCI and Kenya Power target illegal trade in electricity equipment

The Kawangware operation forms part of the DCI’s stated efforts to pursue individuals suspected of stealing electricity meters and participating in the illegal trade in Kenya Power equipment.

The agency said it was working with KPLC to identify those involved and dismantle suspected criminal networks dealing in stolen electricity equipment.

“The DCI, in collaboration with KPLC, remains relentless in pursuing those behind electricity meter theft and the illicit trade in KPLC equipment,” the agency said.

The DCI added that the joint effort was aimed at dismantling the networks involved and bringing those responsible to justice.

The investigation remains ongoing, with detectives retaining the recovered meters as evidence and Kenya Power personnel assisting.

Amuma’s arrest is not a conviction, and the allegations remain subject to the judicial process.
