Federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) searched the Washington, D.C., home of Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar on Monday, October 12, 2026, as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.
The US Department of Justice confirmed that HSI agents executed a judicially authorised search warrant in the Washington, D.C., area but did not disclose the specific allegations under investigation.
“This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation,” the department said in a statement.
According to the Associated Press, two people familiar with the matter confirmed that Homeland Security Investigations agents conducted the search. They spoke anonymously because they were not authorised to discuss the ongoing investigation publicly.
The exact scope of the investigation remained unclear, and Omar’s office had not immediately responded to requests for comment.
Ilhan Omar faces renewed scrutiny over immigration allegations
The search comes amid renewed scrutiny of Omar’s immigration history, which has repeatedly drawn criticism from President Donald Trump and other Republican officials.
US Vice President JD Vance has previously accused the Minnesota congresswoman of immigration fraud, an allegation she has denied. Vance said in May that the government would investigate the matter and pursue prosecution if evidence established that a crime had been committed.
Omar’s office dismissed the allegations in March as fabricated and defamatory, rejecting claims linking her to immigration fraud.
In September, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin also said federal investigators were continuing to examine allegations concerning Omar’s immigration history.

However, authorities had not publicly provided details establishing that the latest search resulted from those specific allegations. The Justice Department’s statement did not identify the suspected offence or explain what investigators were seeking.
Omar represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, which includes Minneapolis. First elected to the US House of Representatives in 2018, she is the first Somali American elected to Congress and a prominent member of the progressive group of lawmakers known as The Squad.
The congresswoman has frequently clashed with Trump and his administration over immigration and other political issues.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the search itself does not establish wrongdoing by Omar. Further details are expected as authorities provide additional information.
