Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has dismissed reports circulating on social media about the health of ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga, assuring Kenyans that he is well and continuing to recover steadily.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, Ruth, speaking on behalf of the Odinga family, said reports claiming that the ODM leader was in poor health were false.

“The Odinga family has noted reports circulating on social media regarding the health of Dr. Oburu Oginga, the ODM Party Leader. I wish to state clearly that these reports are false,” Ruth said.

She said  Oginga was making progress in his recovery, while thanking Kenyans who have continued to pray for him and send messages of goodwill to the family.

“Dr. Oginga is well and continues to recover steadily,” she said.

The clarification comes as unverified information about the ODM leader’s health circulates on social media, prompting the Odinga family to urge Kenyans and media organisations to exercise caution before sharing such reports.

Ruth expressed appreciation to those who have reached out to the family, saying the messages of support had been an important source of encouragement during the recovery period.

“We are deeply grateful to the many Kenyans who have reached out with prayers and goodwill. Your support has been a great source of strength to him and to our family,” she said.

The Kisumu Woman Representative also urged social media users and journalists to verify information before publishing or sharing claims about Dr. Oginga’s condition.

She called on the public to rely on official communication from the Odinga family and the ODM Party when seeking updates on the party leader’s health.

“We urge members of the public, the media, and all social media users to verify information before sharing it, and to rely only on official communication from the family and the ODM Party,” Ruth said.

The family warned that unverified reports about Dr. Oginga’s health could cause unnecessary distress to his relatives and those who care about him.

“Misinformation of this kind causes needless distress to a family and to the many people who hold Dr. Oginga dear,” Ruth said.

She further appealed to the public to give the ODM leader the privacy and peace he needs as he continues his recovery.

The family’s statement also sought to discourage speculation about Oginga’s condition, emphasising that official updates should be treated as the reliable source of information concerning his health.

Ruth asked Kenyans to continue praying for the ODM leader while respecting his privacy during his recovery.

“We ask for your continued prayers and for the space and privacy he requires. Thank you,” she said.

Oburu Oginga is the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), one of Kenya’s major political parties. The latest statement from the Odinga family confirms that he is recovering steadily and rejects the health-related claims circulating on social media.

The family has therefore urged Kenyans to avoid spreading unverified information and instead rely on official communication from the family and ODM for any further updates on the party leader’s condition.
