Detectives have arrested a man suspected of orchestrating nine fraudulent insurance compensation claims arising from a road accident along Kangundo Road in 2023.
The person of interest, Oduor, was arrested by detectives from the Insurance Fraud Investigations Unit (IFIU) in the Omega area of Kasarani and is expected to be arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts.
According to investigators statement on Friday, September 4, 2026, Oduor allegedly organised for different individuals to lodge compensation claims, falsely claiming they had sustained injuries in a road crash involving an insured vehicle, registration number KCT 2*9J, and a third-party vehicle, registration number KBK 9*6C, on September 8, 2023.
“Detectives drawn from the Insurance Fraud Investigations Unit (IFIU) have arrested a suspect in connection with nine (9) fraudulent compensation claims arising from a road traffic accident involving two motor vehicles along Kangundo Road on September 8, 2023,” DCI stated.
The case came to the attention of the IFIU after Jubilee Insurance Company raised concerns over the authenticity of the claims submitted for compensation.
Investigations by the detectives reportedly established that documents presented in support of the claims had been fraudulently obtained from Mama Lucy Hospital and Kayole Police Station.
After completing their investigations, detectives forwarded the inquiry file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for review.
“Investigations subsequently established that documents used in support of the compensation claims had been obtained fraudulently from Mama Lucy Hospital and Kayole Police Station,” DCI stated.
ODPP reccomendation
The ODPP subsequently recommended that Oduor be charged with conspiracy and insurance fraud.
Detectives said the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle networks involved in staging accidents, forging supporting documents and filing false insurance claims in an attempt to unlawfully obtain compensation.
The Insurance Fraud Investigations Unit has warned individuals involved in such schemes that fraudulent claims can be detected through investigations and may result in criminal prosecution.
Insurance fraud remains a serious offence, with investigators continuing to pursue individuals and networks suspected of exploiting legitimate compensation systems for financial gain.
