KRA announces 4-hour iTax system downtime for scheduled maintenance

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a temporary shutdown of its iTax platform for scheduled system maintenance, urging taxpayers to complete any urgent transactions before the outage begins.

In a notice issued on Wednesday, KRA said the iTax system will be unavailable from 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, until 12:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

The authority said the maintenance is part of efforts to improve the performance and reliability of its digital tax services.

“Please be advised that iTax will be unavailable due to scheduled system maintenance from Wednesday, 5th August 2026 at 8:00 p.m. to Thursday, 6th August 2026 at 12:00 a.m.,” KRA stated.

Taxpayers have been encouraged to plan their transactions accordingly and finalize any urgent activities before the maintenance window begins.

“We encourage all taxpayers to plan their transactions accordingly and complete any urgent activities before the scheduled maintenance window,” the notice added.

What is affected

The iTax platform is used for a wide range of tax-related services, including filing returns, generating payment slips, applying for tax compliance certificates, and making tax payments.

KRA also apologized for any inconvenience that may be caused by the temporary outage and thanked taxpayers for their patience.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience as we work to enhance our services,” the authority said.

The announcement comes as KRA continues to invest in digital infrastructure aimed at improving efficiency, security, and user experience on its online tax systems.
