Two suspects were arrested after a black Toyota Prado crashed into an electric pole near Oile Park in Kisumu following a high-speed chase involving detectives, with the DCI reporting the recovery of a pistol and three mobile phones.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspects, identified as William Onyango Odhiambo and Felix Owino Onyango, were arrested as they allegedly attempted to flee from the wrecked vehicle.
According to the DCI, the operation followed a robbery report by a woman who told police that she and her friends had been robbed of five mobile phones by individuals travelling in a black Toyota Prado.
Kisumu Central detectives subsequently traced a vehicle believed to be linked to the incident, registration number KDX 642Y, before the attempted interception triggered a high-speed pursuit.

Officers eventually fired at the vehicleβs tyres, puncturing them near Oile Park, according to the agency.
The damaged Prado then veered out of control and crashed into an electric pole, sustaining damage to its front-right side.
The crash ended the attempted getaway, with detectives arresting the two occupants as they allegedly tried to escape from the wreckage.
The DCI did not specify the distance covered during the chase or whether anyone was injured in the crash.

Pistol, three mobile phones recovered from vehicle
A search of the black Toyota Prado led detectives to recover a black pistol and three mobile phones, which were detained as exhibits, the DCI said.
The recovery forms part of investigations into the suspectsβ possible links to other robberies reported in Kisumu and surrounding areas.
The agency said detectives were investigating what it described as a series of cross-border robberies. However, its statement did not identify the specific incidents or establish whether the three recovered phones were among the five allegedly stolen in the initial robbery.
The DCI also did not provide details about the firearmβs ownership, licensing status or whether it had been linked to any other reported crime.

Two Kisumu robbery suspects await court appearance
The two suspects remained in police custody for processing pending arraignment, according to the DCI.
Their arrest follows investigations into the reported theft of five mobile phones and the suspected use of the Toyota Prado in other robberies.
The case is expected to proceed through the criminal justice system, where the allegations against the suspects will be tested.
The DCI reiterated its commitment to pursuing suspected offenders and dismantling criminal networks.
βThe DCI remains steadfast in pursuing criminal elements and dismantling networks that threaten the safety and security of Kenyans,β the agency said.
Investigations into the reported robbery, the recovered firearm and the mobile phones were ongoing at the time of the statement.
