The Jubilee Party has moved to strengthen opposition unity ahead of the 2027 General Election by appointing a three-member team to negotiate possible political alliances and review the proposed Ukombozi Alliance agreement.
The decision was reached during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting chaired by party leader and presidential candidate Dr Fred Matiang’i on October 27, 2026, as the party seeks to deepen cooperation among opposition formations.
In a statement dated October 28, Jubilee said the committee would lead engagements with like-minded parties and coalitions to explore areas of cooperation before the next General Election.
The party cited its membership in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance as part of the rationale for the initiative, emphasising the need for a common approach among opposition parties.
“Recognizing Jubilee Party’s membership in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance and the importance of unity among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 General Election, the NEC appointed an Inter-Party Coalition Building Committee to spearhead engagements with other like-minded parties and coalitions,” the statement read.

Coalition talks begin
Senator Kembi Gitura will chair the committee, which also comprises Jubilee Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta and Janet Ong’era.
The team has been tasked with reviewing the draft Deed of Agreement for the Ukombozi Alliance (TUA) and proposing amendments where necessary.
It will also engage other opposition parties to identify opportunities for political cooperation and develop proposals to strengthen collaboration ahead of the 2027 polls.
“The Committee shall, among other responsibilities, review and propose amendments to the draft Deed of Agreement for the Ukombozi Alliance (TUA), if any,” Jubilee stated.
The committee is expected to submit its recommendations to the NEC, which will determine the next course of action.
Jubilee said consensus-building would be central to its efforts to bring opposition parties together around shared political objectives.
“The NEC reaffirmed the Party’s commitment to constructive dialogue, cooperation and the pursuit of a common agenda for the transformation of our country,” the statement added.
The announcement signals Jubilee’s intention to pursue structured discussions on opposition cooperation. However, the party did not announce a new coalition agreement or confirm that negotiations with other political formations had been concluded.
Party leadership changes
Alongside the coalition-building initiative, Jubilee approved two interim appointments to fill vacant positions within its party structures.
Lucy Naisiae Kashu was appointed interim chairperson of the Party Women’s Caucus, while Madina Yunis Mahat was named interim deputy national organising secretary.
Both officials will serve in an acting capacity, according to the NEC resolutions communicated by Ole Kenta.
