Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kilimani have launched investigations into a viral video purportedly showing motorists being robbed along the Nairobi Expressway.

The DCI in a statement on September 4, 2026, said the individuals captured in the video, including the person alleged to have been robbed, have been identified and summoned for questioning.

According to preliminary findings from statements recorded by the detectives, the incident was not a robbery as alleged in the widely circulated video.

The alleged victim has been identified as Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri, with detectives now conducting further inquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the subsequent circulation of the video.

“Preliminary investigations, based on the recorded statements, indicate that the incident was not a robbery. The alleged victim has been identified as Hon. Ronald Karauri, Member of Parliament for Kasarani,” DCI stated.

The DCI said investigations are still ongoing to document all relevant facts and determine what transpired before, during and after the incident.

“Further inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the event and circulation of the video, and to document all relevant facts, remain ongoing,” the agency said.

The development comes amid growing concerns over the spread of unverified claims on social media, with the DCI urging members of the public to exercise caution before sharing information that has not been independently verified.

The agency asked anyone with information that could assist the investigations to report it to the nearest police station or through its #FichuaKwaDCI platform.

“Further inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the event and circulation of the video, and to document all relevant facts, remain ongoing,” DCI noted.
