Hull City winger Sorba Thomas escaped without injury after his car overturned near the club’s Cottingham training ground on Friday morning, September 11, 2026.
Images from the scene showed a Land Rover Defender resting upside down on a residential road. Police and fire crews attended the incident, while Hull manager Sergej Jakirovic was also seen at the scene.
Hull’s statement on Sorba Thomas
Hull City later confirmed that Thomas was not hurt in the crash and remains available for the club’s Premier League trip to Chelsea on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
‘Hull City is relieved to confirm that Sorba Thomas is unharmed following a road traffic accident near to the club’s Cottingham training ground. club is aware of images of Sorba’s car circulating on social media and can reassure supporters that he has sustained no injuries and emerged from his vehicle completely unscathed.’ The satement said.
The Wales international only joined Hull from Stoke City on transfer deadline day and made his first appearance for the club in their 1-1 draw with Aston Villa last weekend.
His arrival has added depth to Hull’s attacking options as the newly promoted side continues its encouraging start to life back in the Premier League.
Hull have avoided defeat in each of their opening three league matches since returning to the top flight, giving them confidence ahead of their meeting with Chelsea.
Thomas, meanwhile, is expected to remain with the squad as preparations continue for Saturday’s fixture at Stamford Bridge.
Coach Sergej Jakirović awarded
Aside from Sorba Thomas development, club head coach Sergej Jakirović has been named Barclays Manager of the Month for August 2026 by the Premier League.
Beating Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, Chelsea’s Xabi Alonso and Manchester City’s Enzo Maresca to the award from a mixture of fan votes and a committee panel, the 49-year-old won both of his Premier League fixtures against Manchester United and Coventry City respectively, conceding zero goals.
Earning a first-ever top-flight victory over the Red Devils in the season opener, Jakirović’s side followed that up with a second successive victory away at Coventry, winning 1-0 in the first ever meeting in the Premier League between the two sides.
City forward Oli McBurnie also earned a monthly award by the Premier League, winning August’s Adobe Express Creative Moment of the Month award.
The striker’s skilful piece of play came in the season opener against Manchester United, keeping the ball in play before setting off on a mazy run in midfielder, skipping past the challenges of Youri Tielemans and Bryan Mbeumo before starting an attack when passing the ball out left to Ryan Giles.
