Kenya Power announces power cuts in five counties on Wednesday, September 23

Kenya Power has announced planned electricity interruptions in selected areas of Nairobi, Nyeri, Meru, Murang’a and Kitui counties on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

The scheduled power cuts will run for several hours as the utility company undertakes planned maintenance. Most of the affected areas will experience interruptions between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.

According to the Kenya Power notice, customers in parts of Kitsuru, Nairobi, will be affected. The interruption will cover part of Kirawa Road and adjacent customers.

“Good evening, please find the areas scheduled for power maintenance tomorrow, Wednesday, 23rd September 2026,” the utility firm said.

In Nyeri County, the planned outage will affect areas around Tumutumu Hospital and Ngandu Girls Secondary School. The affected locations include Gatomboya, Githima, Cosato Coffee Mill, Giaituu, Tegu Coffee Factory, Mathaithi, Rugoka, Giagatika Market, Mbogo-Ini, Tumutumu Primary School, Tumutumu Hospital, Tumutumu Secondary School, Karia, Ikonju, Kiangoma Market, Kiangoma Primary School, Karie Coffee Factory, Mungaria Polytechnic, Wakamata, Kaiyaba and Mathira Technical Institute.

Safaricom and Airtel boosters in the affected zone will also be impacted, alongside other nearby customers.

In Meru County, customers around Kinoro Tea Factory and Egoji Hospital are scheduled for an interruption. Areas listed include Miruriri Market, Miruriri Girls Secondary School, Kauro Village, Giumpu, Kiaruo Village, New Blaze Primary School, Kuiri Coffee Factory, Rigiri Coffee Factory, Kinoro Market, Rwarene Primary School, Mweru Market, KARI Centre, Rai Coffee Factory, St Mary Igoji, Geeto Primary School, Gatangugi Market and Mboroga.

The outage will also affect parts of Murang’a County, particularly Njumbi, Ngutu and Kanorero. Listed areas include Kanorero, Njumbi, Nyakianga, Gikoe, Kangunu, Ngutu, Muiriini, Karunge and Kanjahi.

In Kitui County, the affected areas are Kalisasi, Mumbuni and Musukini. The notice lists Mwingi Hospital, Kalisasi, Musukini, Ndaluni, Katalwa, Muutwaathi, Mumbuni and Mathyakani among the areas scheduled for the interruption.

Kenya Power has previously explained that planned interruptions are necessary to facilitate maintenance and upgrades to the electricity network, including work on power lines.

Customers can report power-related incidents through Kenya Power’s myPower app or by dialling *977#. The utility’s national contact centre can also be reached through 97771.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to make the necessary arrangements ahead of the scheduled Wednesday power interruption.
