The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has opened accreditation for election observers and media practitioners ahead of the Migwani County Assembly Ward by-election scheduled for November 17, 2026.

The commission said organisations seeking to deploy short-term election observers or media practitioners for the by-election in Mwingi West Constituency, Kitui County, must submit their applications through the IEBC Accreditation Management System.

In a public notice on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, the electoral agency invited interested organisations to apply for accreditation ahead of the polls.

“The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) invites application from organizations wishing to be accredited as Short-Term Election Observers and Media Practitioners for the Migwani County Assembly Ward, Mwingi West Constituency, Kitui County by-election to be held on 17th November 2026,” the commission said.

The deadline for applications is Friday, October 30, 2026, at 5.00 pm.

IEBC directed applicants to submit their details through its online accreditation platform and advised them to ensure they have a stable and reliable internet connection during the application process.

The accreditation exercise will allow eligible organisations to seek authorisation for their observers and media practitioners to participate in election-related activities surrounding the Migwani Ward by-election.

The commission has also provided contacts for organizations requiring clarification or additional information about the accreditation process. Applicants can reach IEBC through 020 2877000 or 020 2769000, or email [email protected].

IEBC, however, issued a specific financial clarification to organizations planning to participate in the exercise.

The commission’s announcement comes as it prepares for the November 17 by-election and other electoral activities ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Organizations intending to seek accreditation have therefore been advised to complete their applications through the IEBC Accreditation Management System before the October 30 deadline.

The commission’s notice also directed applicants to use the official accreditation system when submitting their details and provided its telephone and email contacts for further inquiries.

The Migwani County Assembly Ward by-election will be held on November 17, 2026, in Mwingi West Constituency, Kitui County.
