The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two more Nyamira County Assembly officials over alleged irregularities in the award of a Ksh367 million tender for the construction of an office block.

The arrests were made on Thursday, October 2, 2026, as investigators continued probing a procurement process that EACC says allegedly resulted in the loss of Sh30.18 million in public funds.

The two officials are Deputy Clerk and Director of Legislative, Legal Procedure and Committee Services David Nyarango Ombego and Director of Monitoring and Evaluation Joyce Onyiego.

Two officials arrested in Kisii

EACC said the two were arrested within Kisii County during a coordinated operation by its investigators.

“EACC has today arrested two more Nyamira County Assembly officials in connection with alleged irregularities in the award of a KES 367 million tender for the construction of an office block for the Assembly,” the commission said in a statement issued on Thursday.

“The irregularities allegedly resulted in the loss of KES 30,187,396 in public funds,” EACC added.

The commission said the officials are facing allegations relating to abuse of office, willful failure to comply with laws governing the management of public funds and negligence of official duty.

“They are being processed at EACC’s South Nyanza Regional Office in Kisii, pending arraignment,” the agency stated.

The latest arrests bring to five the number of Nyamira County Assembly officials linked to the investigation into the tender.

Three officials previously charged

The latest arrests follow the charging of three other officials over the same project.

They include Nyamira County Assembly Clerk Duke Simeon Onyari, Chief Officer for Roads and Public Works Eng. Josephat Matini Oruru and Infrastructure Officer Simon Ondari Ogecha.

EACC said its investigations are focused on alleged irregularities in the procurement and implementation of the Assembly’s office block project.

The commission has continued to investigate suspected procurement violations involving public institutions, including projects funded through county governments.

The two newly arrested officials are expected to be arraigned after investigators complete processing them at the EACC South Nyanza Regional Office in Kisii.
