Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has questioned President William Ruto’s treatment of political allies who helped him win the 2022 General Election, pointing to the removal or political decline of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi, former Mwingi Central MP Mohamed Ali, and former Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa.

Nyoro, who recently took charge of the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) and joined the opposition, used the cases to question what he described as unexplained political fallout within the administration.

His remarks come after months of increasing distance between him and Ruto. Nyoro was once regarded as a close ally of the President but has increasingly criticised the administration and eventually moved away from UDA.

Nyoro questions Gachagua removal

Nyoro recalled his role in campaigning for Ruto before questioning the circumstances surrounding Gachagua’s removal from office.

“Mimi nilizunguka huko kote nimetaja na tukakuja kwa roho moja tukasaidia. Na mnajua mimi ni mtu wa heshima tukasaidia rais ambaye amekalia sasa kwa kiti,” Nyoro said.

He then asked supporters to reflect on what happened after Kenya Kwanza won the election.

“Nataka mnisikize ndugu zangu, kaka zangu, mjiulize wakati tulishinda katika uchaguzi na tukaaanza kazi na tukaendelea nataka niwaache na haya; ni kitu gani hiki mheshimiwa Rigathi Gachagua alifanya haraka hivo mlielezwa ni nini akatolewa kwa ofisi na madharau?”

Gachagua was removed from office by the Senate in October 2024 after the National Assembly passed an impeachment motion against him. He denied the allegations made against him.

Nyoro also questioned what happened to Linturi, who served as Agriculture Cabinet Secretary before leaving government.

“Mjiulize tu wenyewe Mheshimiwa Mithika Linturi alikosa kiti chake cha ugavana kule Meru kama tunafanya kampeni kwa sababu alijitolea kwa kufanya kazi ya kutafuta kura. Nataka mjiulize alifanya jambo gani? Mshawisikia chochote?” he said.

Nyoro names more allies

Nyoro also cited Mohamed Ali, saying he witnessed the effort the politician put into the 2022 campaign.

“Jambo lingine ningetaka niwaulize kaka zangu dada zangu, Mohammed Ali mimi nilikuwa katika kampeni kule Pwani alishikilia sisi mpaka akakonda kwa kampeni kwa sababu kampeni ni kazi kubwa sana,” he said.

“Nataka mjiulize Mohammed Ali mshaisikia amekosea yeye heshima? Mjiulize kitu gani ilifanyika.”

He then mentioned Jumwa, who lost the Kilifi governorship race and later left UDA after expressing frustration over her political ambitions and the party’s direction.

“Mjiulize mheshimiwa Aisha Jumwa… akashikilia kule Kilifi mpaka akakosa kiti chake cha ugavana, nyinyi wenyewe mjiulize mshaiambiwa shida yake ni gani?”

Nyoro ended by blaming the political conflict on the President rather than on Kenyans.

“I want to plead with you, Kenyans have no problem with the president. It is he who has a problem with Kenyans. Ako na shida na Wakenya wote,” he said.

Nyoro’s remarks deepen his political break with Ruto and come after he formally moved to PPK, creating another opposition vehicle ahead of the 2027 General Election.
