Police in Siaya have arrested 12 people following a chaotic incident in which a group of youths allegedly blocked a convoy carrying dignitaries in Siaya town.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, shortly after the conclusion of a womenโs economic empowerment function held at the Siaya KMTC grounds.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), trouble broke out as the convoy headed towards a designated landing and take-off site.
“Law enforcement officers in Siaya have arrested 12 suspects following a chaotic incident in which a group of rowdy youth attempted to obstruct a convoy of dignitaries in Siaya town,” DCI stated.
“The incident occurred yesterday, September 8, 2026, shortly after the conclusion of a womenโs economic empowerment function held at the Siaya KMTC grounds.”
A group of youths allegedly attempted to force their way through a secured gate, obstructing the convoy and throwing stones at police officers manning the entrance.
Police officers responded by restoring order and arresting 12 suspects believed to have taken part in the incident.
The suspects remained in police custody as of Wednesday, undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment, while detectives continued investigations to establish whether other people were involved.
The DCI warned that although citizens have a constitutional right to assemble and express themselves peacefully, such rights do not extend to violence, obstruction of lawful operations or attacks on police officers.
โViolence, obstruction of lawful operations and attacks on police officers will not be tolerated,โ the DCI said, warning that those found responsible would face the law.
The latest arrests come amid heightened attention on crowd management and security during public and political events across the country.
“The DCI reiterates that while citizens have the right to assemble and express themselves peacefully, violence, obstruction of lawful operations and attacks on police officers will not be tolerated. Those who resort to disorder and violence will be held accountable in accordance with the law.”
